looks a bit like the flying spaghetti monster to me...I'll take it as a sign we must obey our noodly master.

Saving the Earth=saving Human lives. "By cutting down 50,000 acres of mangrove trees in the 1990s, and probably more since, Myanmar may have left itself much more vulnerable to last week's deadly Cyclone Nargis, according to Surin Pitsuwan, the secretary-general of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. That shouldn't be surprising: A study appearing in Science in 2005 found that regions buffered by coastal vegetation sustain fewer deaths and less damage when they are swamped by inundations from strong storms or tsunamis, such as the one in December 2004.

I want one...sigh...maybe my next home. Green roofs are a solid solution to help combat the problems created by "concrete jungles". From the page: "Cities worldwide are promoting environmentally "green" roofs to mitigate several urban problems. Ground cover, shrubs and other flora planted across a building's roof can reduce storm water runoff, easing the burden on local sewers and water treatment systems. And the vegetation can keep the roof cooler in summer, lowering interior air-conditioning costs and therefore peak demand on area power plants.
Green roofs have been blossoming in Europe for more than a decade, and Tokyo now requires that at least 20 percent of any new roof on medium and large buildings be cultivated. Chicago is the U.S. leader."

I hate glue traps! I work for a large plant nursery, and I hate that they are used to control rodents around our animal feed. Today a large Rat snake was caught. Mineral oil and gentle and careful prying him loose did the trick, but I wonder if this snake will be okay. please don't use glue traps!

ya learn something new everyday! this is news to me. "Lightning can happen as a result of a volcanic eruption. As the hot ash rises through the cooler atmosphere, friction occurs. This friction generates a substantial electrical charge within the cloud, and should the conditions be correct, huge electrical discharges may be observed."

I will be so happy! happy! to get rid of this jerk Dubya! From the page: "When it comes to global warming, much of the world has been resigned for years to waiting out the end of the George W. Bush presidency. Under Bush, the White House has altered climate change reports, spiked global calls for action and maintained that it would simply be too harmful to the US economy to address the growing dangers of a warming climate.
With just months to go before Bush makes way for his successor, the US president on Wednesday (more...) once again confirmed that waiting for number 44 is the way to go. Bush called for the US to halt the growth of greenhouse gas emissions -- but only in 2025. As the San Jose Mercury News wrote on Thursday: "Allowing emissions to rise for the next 17 years is not a plan; it's an abdication.""
